About

I am Ian Reppel (a.k.a. Hellström). Most of what the tech industry treats as settled fails to survive scrutiny: the standard test for product/market fit has no empirical basis, AI benchmarks measure something other than real-world performance, useful quantum computing is further away than the press releases suggest, and consumer products are routinely engineered to exploit the people who use them rather than make them better off. I investigate these problems and build alternatives.

I have built platforms serving hundreds of millions of customers at Spotify, Nubank, Bosch, Jua, and D2iQ, including one with a counterfactual annual impact of $240 million. I hold a PhD in theoretical physics. The essays on this site are how I think.

Get in touch if you need someone to solve a problem that requires novel thinking.
